Mickey's Choo Choo-Mickey's early tenure as a train operator circa 1929

Here's another 2009 childhood memory unlocked from within the catacombs of my Cerebellum:

MICKEY'S CHOO-CHOO from 1929.

This cartoon is famous not just for further fleshing out the Character but for also introducing his trademark FALSETTO VOICE.

I mean..... He was already speaking full sentences since THE KARNIVAL KID, also from 1929, but his voice wasn't standardized yet.
"It's a bum hooch dance, keep your money in your pants!"

Most of his lines.

Including his famous HOT DOGS!!! line
"HOT DOGS! HOT DOGS!"

Sound shrill and nasal due to his original spoken voice being performed by music composer CARL STALLING.

And in MICKEY'S FOLLIES,
He had no FALSETTO in his voice as his voice was performed by an unknown Disney employee.

Though that was more limited to him singing MINNIE'S YOO-HOO.

But this one, he's got his more recognizable voice as performed by WALT DISNEY himself

Wait.... What's he doing now?

He's backing up his train to the station

Since the aforementioned CHOO-CHOO is anthropomorphized,

And to demonstrate his now recognizable FALSETTO as well as the fact he's got more personality to him compared to his previous outings,

Mickey sings while he works
"I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD!"

All while putting oil on his TRAIN's axles.

For some reason, Mickey's train is more DOG LIKE in personality, what with the feeding scene below:

Funny how the artists treat the CHOO-CHOO's COWCATCHER like it's his teeth.

Now it's LUNCH TIME for Mickey while his Train is getting refueled with all the COAL it needs.

The DACHSHUND is also in the happy SPAGHETTI mood

Wait a minute.....

Is MICKEY using the DOG's Dentures to open a CAN OF SPAGHETTI?

Uhhhhhh....Ok.

At least MICKEY's not using a dachshund like a rubber band like he did back in PLANE CRAZY(1928)

I wouldn't eat UNCOOKED SPAGHETTI if I were you......

I prefer my SPAGHETTI to be cooked with either tomato sauce, butter chicken, or Poblano Peppers THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I've looked but as far as I can tell, this cartoon predates the WALL STREET MARKET CRASH by about a month.....soooo

I hope MICKEY ain't eating through his rations

Then MICKEY gets an idea.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

But seriously, there's a reason why you should never play with your food.
Humiliating things like getting SPAGHETTI literally on your face.... like that.

In the midst of all that,

Yup....

Minnie comes over to say HELLO to MICKEY....

Seems she really liked MICKEY's song MINNIE'S YOO-HOO from prior...
"Hello...."

"Hello..."

Ever have that happy feeling about finally having some company to support your struggling job?

Mickey feels the same way too.

And curiosity strikes the rodent:
"What you got?"

"FIDDLE."

HOT DOG!!! MICKEY sure is delighted.

"Can you play it?"

Mickey goes on to signal his TRAIN's Caboose Car to.....

Well..... You know I'm talking about.....

Minnie then plays her VIOLA....

You know whenever MICKEY hears music,
He has to dance and use other animals as makeshift instruments.

SWEET HEAVENS!
WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE TIME?!

Of course, Before Mickey can announce the departure, he has to......

PERFORM A BIG ASS ANTIC ANIMATION...
"All..."

"ABBBOOOOooooooooord!"

The Anthropomorphic Train hear's the call.

While MICKEY and MINNIE are enjoying their TRAIN RIDE,

"HOORAY!!!! HOORAY!!!!1"

The TRAIN is having some struggles of his own

And that my friends is why we invented the DIESEL ENGINES for trains.

Malfunctioning Train or not, MICKEY is determined to get him and his girlfriend MINNIE up that hill
But as usual, It goes horribly awry for him.....

All while MINNIE is.... sort of enjoying the ride while we marvel at them perspective shots....

Man.... This poor Cow does not want to be an innocent Bystander......

I've read that this perspective shot was actually from PLANE CRAZY....
just with a train track to better fit the short.

"NO EARTHWORM JIM COW JOKES.... PLEASE....."

"At least not until 1994.... assuming I live long enough to reach that year...."

At least MICKEY and MINNIE enjoyed their wild ride but.....

I remember watching this cartoon on YOUTUBE in my apartment living room circa early January 2009 on my family's MDG Horizon PC running Windows XP.

That's me.... Circa 2008 or early 2009.
Back then, I had a really short haircut.

I also remember watching both the BLACK & WHITE Original & the 1991 Computer colored release but in this day of age, it's better to watch this cartoon in it's original BLACK & WHITE print because as ORSON WELLES would say:

"It's very wrong to tamper with a perfect BLACK & WHITE print with unnecessary color."

wait..... that's his mantra as his actual quote was to prevent the now deceased TED TURNER from tampering with CITIZEN KANE with his crayons.

The YouTube Uploads have long since been removed due to copyright....

but thankfully since January 1 2025, this short is in the PUBLIC DOMAIN.

As usual due to the now elapsed Copyright, I'll present the link to the Video:

Apologies for how long it took me to make this post.

I originally started in 2024 shortly after doing my post on MOVING DAY(1936) but the cartoon wasn't in the Public Domain yet........ until January 1st 2025 alongside some other 1929 era Cartoons...

And I'd wish I dedicated the time in 2025 to do the post but I lost track of time due to the ARMY MOTIVATION COMMERCIAL so I decided to dedicate most of 2026 making the post.

It's been a long road for me but I've done it.

Be on the look out for future posts about Classic Cartoons in this blog.

I Promise.
