I've decided to do my DOUG Movie Shout Outs once again.
And expect more DOUG posts for 2026 because DUAL-ANNIVERSARIES.
I already mentioned this on my previous WRITING FROM REALITY Blogpost but for those who need a refresher, here it is:
SKEETER is well known in both NICKELODEON & DISNEY for making Honking Noises as well as being a good MOUTH SOUND FOLEY ARTIST.
But there's more to that than what meets the eye.
Skeeter(As well as his voice actor FRED NEWMAN) may have watched the POLICE ACADEMY movies in the 1980s so they both got inspired by LARVELL JONES from said movies.
Portrayed by MICHAEL WINSLOW, Larvell Jones is known in the films for making mouth sounds as that's a bit part of his personality.
Lets hope both the character & his voice actor watch SPACEBALLS: THE NEW ONE in 2027 because WINSLOW will definitely return as our famous radar technician.
DOWNTOWN JULIE BROWN, former VJ of MTV's past, has been referenced a few times on DOUG during the NICKELODEON ERA.
I mean, you can't have a Nicktoon without referencing your parent affiliate which would be the Music Television Channel.
And yes, if you've seen the NICKELODEON HAYSTACK LOGO on these earlier episodes, you'll see that MTV managed the Nick Version.
If VIACOM didn't freeze the budget in 1994 and DOUG stayed with NICKELODEON, even if there had to be a change from HANHO HEUNG-UP to PLUS ONE ANIMATION,
I would have loved to see a DOUG/BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD Crossover.
Heh Heh..... BEAVIS making quips at DOUG..... HEH HEH!!!
A fan can dream an alternate reality....
so....
The only MIKE JUDGE programme that DOUG's likely to have a crossover now is with KING OF THE HILL.
Lets hope that when HULU finally revives DOUG, they'd better make a DOUG/KING OF THE HILL Crossover....
Though it would be limited to a cold opening in a similar vein to the one from Family Guy's BIGFAT episode.
Whether you like BILLY WEST or CHRIS PHILLIPS performance as ROGER KLOTZ, you'll be surprised to find out that both versions of ROGER's voice is very dissimilar to THRASH singer DAVE MUSTAINE of MEGADETH fame.
Though I have a hunch that Mustaine's actual voice has a much lower Octave than even Chris Phillips' own performance of ROGER KLOTZ.
Maybe that's where JIM got the idea for ROGER to have a short-lived Rock Band called THE ULCERS in the 1991 episode DOUG'S NO DUMMY.
Too bad ROGER'S band was met with negative press from the School Board.
That and there were probably disagreements with his 3 friends, WILLIE, NED, & BOOMER.
The Mad Doctor's love for a certain game show on NBC:
Again from the Nick era, in one of the Quailman episodes, Dr. Klotzenstein happens to be a fan of a certain gameshow that's been running since 1975 and still ongoing.
Specifically WHEEL OF FORTUNE.
But instead of betting money using your brain,
Dr. Klotzenstein's game show is.....
And it's here where you're strapped to a wheel and spun around really fast.
Just one question:
WHERE'S PAT SAJAK & VANNA WHITE in this episode?
And has EDWINA KLOTZ been gambling her HAIR SALON salary in CULVER CITY?
Who knew DOUG & CHALKY both watched a bad game show:
Again, another reference during the Nickelodeon era.
In this scene, LAMAR unfairly compares DOUG's Permanent Record to CHALKY's.
In one scene, DOUG is in a Spelling Bee and he unintentionally misspells the word...
BALOGNA
Only, he misspells it because he didn't know better or because he had stage fright.
Then the scene cuts to CHALKY who correctly spells the long word...
"ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARINISM."
For those who are unaware, this is actually a reference to a somewhat bad GAME SHOW called
Rigging aside, the reference to this old show is based on the time when
12 year old GLORIA LOCKERMAN spelled CHALKY's exact word correctly on the show.
Say what you will about the infamous rigging of the QUESTION but as far as I know, GLORIA never received any BEHIND THE SCENES coaching.
Her perfect spelling of a long word happened to be PURE RAW NATURAL TALENT.
I wonder if she actually won the money or flat-out declined the winning?
Even in Adulthood, DOUG still is bothered by all of this to a point that he'd love to expose CHALKY as a sneaky rat.
"Just don't tell that to my brother CLIFFORD STUDEBAKER!!!
It will really hurt his soul if he found out!"
Lamar Bone's a fan of ANDY GRIFFITH:
Have you noticed the similar vocal cadence with Vice Principal LAMAR BONE throughout both the Nick and Disney versions of DOUG?
That's right. As I've said before, LAMAR BONE's voice as provided by DOUG PRIES is a vocal parody of the late actor JESSE DONALD "DON" KNOTTS.
Unlike SETH MACFARLANE's own take on DON KNOTTS which he based on APPLE DUMPLING GANG which sounds much more whinier,
JIM JINKIN prefers his DON KNOTTS as the strict disciplinarian that his character BARNEY FIFE is usually portrayed as.
And that's what LAMAR BONE is,
He's essentially BARNEY FIFE, just with an OOMPAA LOOMPA Orange Skin tone and a job position that he's only second bananas with compared to the unseen PRINCIPAL BUTSAVICH or former Bluffington Mayor PRINCIPAL BOB WHITE.
"I may be second bananas....
BUT I'M A FAR MORE COMPETENT HIGHER UP COMPARED TO THE
PRINCIPALS I'VE SERVED UNDER!!!!"
And despite his interests in YODELING & ANDY GRIFFITH,
LAMAR BONE is no joke.
He'll hunt you down and put you in extended detention without pulling a muscle.
And he doesn't give a rat's ass about ROGER being rich either.
To him, Roger being Rich means nothing as it only proves the delinquent-wannabe that he sees ROGER in.
"Just because a Land-Owner and Purple Blowhard made you rich
doesn't mean you have Diplomatic Immunity against me Mr. Klotz!!!"
And like I said, unlike SETH MACFARLANE's own take on DON KNOTTS, LAMAR BONE's voice as supplied by DOUG PRIES is as closest you can get to the real DON KNOTTS in terms of Vocal Cadence.

You can't have an animated Sitcom without having a superhero character for your main character to be a fan of.
Introduced in 1993, MAN-O-STEEL man is DOUG's favorite established superhero that he likes even though the Superhero rarely makes an appearance in the cartoon.
So it's mostly a COMIC BOOK or POSTER in which the Hero makes his appearance
MAN-O-STEEL MAN also serves a DOUBLE WAMMY too.
The character's name is inspired by the DC Comics superhero SUPERMAN
However, in the ensuing years, ok ok... During the late Disney era,
It was eventually revealed in the episode JUDY'S BIG ADMISSION that the character of MAN-O-STEEL man was created by VOLE UNIVERSITY Alumni STANLEY STEEL
So this is why I made the DOUBLE WHAMMY Claim.
Because Superman is a DC Comics character but the Character of STANLEY STEEL is a reference to the late STAN LEE of MARVEL COMICS which is DC COMICS biggest rival.
And to DOUG's amusement since he's been a Disney character since February 1996, DISNEY would eventually acquire MARVEL in December 31 2009.
And no, Even if the Revival of DOUG on HULU eventually happens, there will be no references to THE IRON GIANT as DOUG is property of DISNEY while both SUPERMAN and THE IRON GIANT are property of WARNER BROS.
And I don't think DOUG will like the idea of a Clark Kent who's portrayed like an angsty Pacifist.

In several previous posts, I mentioned that DOUG has inspirations going as far back as the very beginning of THE PEANUTS Comic strip back in 1950.
Considering that PORKCHOP is indeed very similar to SNOOPY in personality,
(Without a bird friend or WWII fantasies that is)
It was a given that in early 1997, the BULL TERRIER himself would do a dance for DOUG based on his puppyhood inspiration SNOOPY.
And yes, PORKCHOP does not get punched in the gut for doing the dance....
Unlike what happened to BRIAN GRIFFIN in 2008.
Why am I saying this?
Because DOUG would never punch his best friend in the stomach.
Not only because that's animal abuse but also because DOUG demonstrates that is his punches are way too hard on other people and BUD DINK learnt that the hard way back in 1993.
Too bad DOUG and PORKCHOP were not shortlisted for appearing in the TARGET promotion for the PEANUTS MOVIE in 2015.
Instead, they were replaced by STEWIE & BRIAN for the promo.

DOUG loves IBM PC Compatibles:
I've seen several episodes of DOUG, both Nickelodeon & Disney, where there's the sound of a POST Beep from an IBM PS/2 system that's an actual sound and not FRED NEWMAN's vocalization.
The most prominent is this bit where DOUG: OH BABY where MR. DINK's alarm system is alerted to nobody being at the front door.
Where did MR. DINK get IBM's Intel 8243 Programmable Interval Timer Chip & 8ohm Cone Speaker just to create his VERY EXPENSIVE Alarm System?

And yes, the SLEECH Brothers from DOUG also fiercely believe in CUSTOM BUILDS for your own PC.

Also fascinating that it's one of the few sound effects that are based on actual sounds instead of FRED NEWMAN making a vocalized imitation of the sound.
Raiders of the lost......CANYON:
Introduced in the 3rd Season of Nickelodeon's Doug, RACE CANYON was another Alter-Ego for our Sweater vested friend here.
HEY!!! THAT'S DURANGO DOUG!!!! THAT'S THE WRONG ONE!!!!
Someone get me the real INDIANA DOUG!!!!....er... ummmm......

He's portrayed as a ruggedly handsome fellow who uses his wits, just like QUAILMAN but without the superpowers that is. Just a whip or similar tool to use.
And sometimes, He can join up with the man who he's trying to emulate.
Just like with SMASH ADAMS, who's a parody of JAMES BOND,
RACE CANYON is a parody of INDIANA JONES, which was actually fitting considering that at the time, the character and Franchise were property of PARAMOUNT PICTURES.....
Of course, this was before VIACOM's infamous acquisition of PARAMOUNT that led to the company losing DOUG to Disney later in late February 1996.
And years later before DISNEY bought LUCASFILM in late 2012.
Speaking about that, by the time of DISNEY's DOUG from 1996 to 1999, Race Canyon made just one appearance but with a different Character as his sidekick and a different voice.
Here he's instead with FENTRUCK STIMMEL as his sidekick during the latter's PERMANENT RESIDENCY crisis of 1999.
I'm guessing RACE CANYON wants no association with a kid who'd later become a Corrupt Liberty City Cop in 2008.
Man, I've got to CAN-IT with them GTA IV jokes.
Just like with DOUG, INDIANA JONES would later become Disney Property but unlike with DOUG which was a result of JIM JINKINS disapproving of VIACOM freezing the budgets,
INDY's new home with DISNEY is a result of the sale of LUCASFILM back in 2012 because GEORGE got sick of all them ANTI-PREQUEL sentiments he was being fed at the time.
However, just like with NICKELODEON's version of DOUG which SKYDANCE still retains the first 52 episode as per the agreement with Disney in early 1996,
SKYDANCE retains the rights to the Past INDY adventures prior to 2012.
Yes, that includes the INFAMOUS CRYSTAL SKULL.
Enough said.
Yes, I have to say SKYDANCE because of the 2025 acquisition of PARAMOUNT by SKYDANCE.
On a sidenote as I was typing this, I've heard that in JANUARY 15 2026, KATHLEEN KENNEDY stepped down as PRESIDENT of LUCASFILM LTD. and handed over duties to both DAVE FELONI and LYNWEN BRENNAN.
