As I've said in my GIANA SISTERS post, here are the things that happened that year that are considered defining:
40th U.S President Ronald Reagan travels to WEST BERLIN and delivers his speech denouncing the 1961 erection of the BERLIN WALL and he also challenges SOVIET Leader MIKHAIL GORBECHEV to "TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!!!!",
JESSICA MCLURE falls down an 8" well in MIDLAND, TEXAS which culminated in a 58 hour long rescue mission to retrieve her from the depths
The world hears in horror that ANDY WARHOL succumbs to his Arrhythmia, 
NEC releases their PC Engine(TurboGraphx 16 in North America) in Japanese Retail,
IBM releases their PS/2 line of Business computers to the masses,
THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER premieres as DISNEY's first and only INDEPENDANT ANIMATED FILM.... as produced by HYPERION PICTURES,
The Great Giana Sisters was released to retail for Commodore and Atari Computers only to be pulled from store shelves due to uncanny similarities to a certain game from NINTENDO,
Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Kid Icarus make their USA debut after an early start in Japan in 1986.... though unlike their Japanese debut which used FLOPPY DISKS, the USA versions instead used Cartridges with ZELDA being the only one to use BATTERY BACKUP.
And THE SIMPSONS make their Monumental debut as animated Commercial break bumpers on THE TRACEY ULLMAN SHOW
And that would be 2 years before THE SIMPSONS eventually get their own show on FOX.
But prior to THE SIMPSONS making their debut,
THE TRACEY ULLMAN SHOW also had another set of ANIMATED BUMPERS,
Allow me to introduce you to DR. JANICE N!GODATU.
These early Ullman shorts, as created by M.K BROWN, were among the first ever set of animated bumpers to appear on THE TRACEY ULLMAN SHOW when it debut on APRIL 5 1987.
These shorts follow the titular DR. N!GODATU as she narrates her day to us the audience on what's going on with her life both outside and inside her occupation as a therapist.
Compared to THE SIMPSON which uses a more cruder and cartoonier atmosphere
DR. N!GODATU has a more down to earth feel which explains why the characters look SEMI-REALISTIC most of the time.
The look and feel of DR N!GODATU does somehow give me SPIKE AND MIKE vibes.....
just without some of the vulgarity those shorts often have
And some of the artistic atmosphere to the animation cels in the N!GODATU shorts do give me vibes to the covers used in the OMAHA comics
So..... what happened to the DR. N!GODATU shorts?
Well, the producers at GRACIE FILMS who produced THE TRACEY ULLMAN SHOW realized that THE SIMPSONS were more popular than they realized.
Even after alternating between the two shorts,
People actually took a liking to the SIMPSONS shorts more than they do DR. N!GODATU.
So.... come forth the second season, the DOCTOR no longer showed up as THE SIMPSONS have proven popular....
And it got to a point where the titular YELLOW FAMILY would eventually have their own segments before finally breaking off from ULLMAN and getting their own show in December 1989.
This is sort of an off-the-cuff post for me but I need to keep my BLOG active, even in the midst of moving back to the old room I had before Mid-August 2024.
I know I should be doing this post for 2027 which is when the ULLMAN SHOW reaches it's 40th anniversary but I figured that 40th anniversary is meant for THE SIMPSONS so that retrospective will be reserved for THE SIMPSONS come forth APRIL 2027.
