Fleischer Oddities: Disney's odd tribute to their rival back in the 80s

Oh the joys of finding oddities about your favorite studio.

And I sure did find some on Facebook a day after my birthday...

Woke up early in the morning on December 14 2023 and discovered these four images on my Facebook Feed:

What was Disney thinking putting these out back in 1983... Oh right... the Public Domain....

I'm sorry... what I mean to say was FLEISCHER STUDIOS' WORK OR A MAJORITY OF IT IS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.

But seriously, One would ask why Disney would do something like churn out cartoon collections based on their rival's properties.

However, these cartoon examples shown above aren't what they are cracked up to be because a lot of the Fleischer cartoons on these VHS and CLV laserdiscs are cartoons I'm unfamiliar with.

When I think of Fleischer Studios, I think of Betty Boop....

And most importantly: POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN

With a few notable exceptions being Gulliver's Travels, Mr. Bug goes to Town, and Superman but those are for another blogpost.

Admittingly, the guy who posted the photo's of Disney's VHS and Laserdiscs of Fleischer cartoons admitted that the prints on those sets are just your usual unrestored Public Domain prints. OUCH!

Even Archive.Org handles public domain prints better than this..... that is if the uploader wants to put the effort which they do.

Trust me, this isn't the end of the oddity series of Blogposts. I got tons of other oddities to find out there just waiting to be unvieled.
