Such were the days when, let's say:
You want an iPhone but at the time, only AT&T provided it for you.
In the case of my home country of CANADA, ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS was the original exclusive provider
Until July 2008 when FIDO started to offer the iPhone through their services and later in November 2009 when BELL & TELUS followed suit.
As for me,
There were two phones I wanted both of them were annoyingly exclusive to a specific provider when I was growing up.
First Example is THE PALM PRE from PALM INC.
Released in June 6 2009 in the USA
And later August 27 2009 in CANADA.
This Phone was the one I was positively lusting after back in 2009 when PALM released it as it was primarily featured on the YouTube channel TWEETERMAN287 with IAN THAYER having the phone for a considerable amount of time until he switched to VERIZON as his provider and switched to an Android Phone.
Back in 2009, I had no Cellular Phone and I really wanted the PALM PRE as my first Cellphone but my mother refused not because I was 11 years old at the time and she didn't trust me with devices like a Cellphone without her breathing down my neck,
But because the DAMN PHONE WAS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH BELL, at least here in CANADA, and my mother was firmly with FIDO as our Provider.
This was not fun. I hated the fact that phones like the PALM PRE were exclusive to specific Providers and seeing that BELL was the only one who had this phone for the Canadian Market, I was not pleased.
2 years later in 2011(One of my least favorite years in my life)
There was another phone I was seriously lusting after and that was the...
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800 (aka THE PLAYSTATION PHONE)
This was another phone that I was lusting after, especially during when I was just about to finish the 7th Grade and considering I missed out on the Palm Pre in 2009 and iPhones were still out of both me and my mother's Price Range and it had been a month since I bought my Aqua Blue 3DS Handheld,
I wanted this phone as I was starting to become more into PlayStation Consoles but the problem was the STUPID PROVIDER EXCLUSITIVITY!!!!!
However, Unlike with the PALM PRE which was through BELL, the Xperia Play was only available to ROGERS Customers!
Again, Mother refused due to her preferring FIDO and I was left without my own SMARTPHONE for another whole year until April 2012 when I got my NOKIA C6-00 Smartphone:
As for that Xperia phone above the NOKIA,
At the time, I didn't realize it was an ANDROID PHONE so had I had the Xperia Play, it would have been my very first ANDROID Phone.
But I had to wait until 2014 when I had to change phones and this was my Phone below:
The LG Google Nexus 5 my first phone that I had that was on Par with iPhones even though it was an android based phone.
I've had that phone for a good year until Christmas 2015 when my father sent me an new iPhone 5S and I eventually switched to iPhones and never looked back ever since.
In the 10 years since then, I've been firmly an iPhone user.
After 3 years with my 5S, I eventually changed to a 6S in January 2018
And then I went to an iPhone 11 in February 2020
Then in March 2022, I upgraded to an iPhone 13
After years of being with FIDO, I eventually switched to TELUS completely in January 2024 which also happened to be when I made the upgrade to an iPhone 15 Pro which as of this writing is my current phone.
And yes, I will confirm that sometime in the Holidays of 2025 or around the New Year 2026, I'll switch to an iPhone 17 Pro as my TELUS Contract for the 15 Pro will soon elapse and I will need to switch to a new phone.
I won't tell you what color I'm getting until I make a blogpost after the purchase but let's just say, I'm going for a Dragon Ball Aesthetic with this new phone.
I promise... when i make the purchase and switchover to the 17 pro in JANUARY 2026.
