On the night of October 1st 2025, I checked the DISNEY+ app on my iPhone and I was shocked to find three films from UNIVERSAL STUDIOS now on the service.
What's going on with them studios bowing to DISNEY by leasing streaming rights to their films towards the MOUSE HOUSE's service?
Was it the creators of the films raging at the other services removing films or TV shows off their original service?
First, It was several Paramount IP like GREASE & Jimmy Neutron during the summer,
NOW JAWS & CASPER?
Granted this update is on my side which is CANADA.
I don't know if these licensing agreements apply to the U.S.....
But I can hazard a guess the MOUSE HOUSE is treating I.Ps better than Warner Bros. or Paramount which those two often remove shows even with nostalgia or niche value, much to our chagrin.
Next thing I know, JIM JINKINS is going to take advantage of this LICENSING loophole to license NICKELODEON's DOUG to the DISNEY+ service......
WHY?
Because just like us DOUG FANs, JIM is not happy that DAVID ELLISON removed the Nick series off the PARAMOUNT+ Service back in December 2024.
If that eventually happens,
PLEASE LET THE RESTORATION JUST USE THE 16MM MASTERS or REPHOTOGRAPHING THE ORIGINAL ART.
Using Upscaling Software with existing clean prints hurts my soul.
But so does making Maverick Quickies but I digress because the quickies happen due to breaking news like these.
Also, ONE PUNCH MAN is on DISNEY+ but that's to be expected since VIZ & HULU are best friends with each other.
Update as of October 9 2025:
When I originally did this blogpost, There was still a STAR Service...at least here in CANADA. On Wednesday October 8 2025, STAR became HULU here in CANADA....
But I don't know for how long due to Disney planning to retire the HULU branding for all it's regions so it can expand their media empire under a single name.
We'll see until March 2026.
Another update as of November 3 2025:
I checked on DISNEY+ once again and some more UNIVERSAL IP is seen on the service.
One example being HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS starring JIM CARREY because CHRISTMAS is upon us.
