Writing from Reality 07

Continuation because I love doing these style of posts even if I'm at the risk of running low on examples so I'll keep things brief for the time being.

The Reaper can't shake off his Childhood

Have you ever seen the Season 1 Episode where the GRIM REAPER is chasing the Four Boys while riding on a TRICYLE?

It's about as outlandish as is, especially for EARLY SOUTH PARK, an era most fans prefer compared to the Politically Satirical plots that MATT STONE & TREY PARKER prefer nowadays.

But the REAPER RIDING A TRICYCLE thing is actually inspired by drawings made by TREY PARKER in his childhood growing up in CONIFER, COLORADO.

DOUG's still pissed at the Emmy Awards.+A Tribute to the Warner Siblings

Remember that one joke about the EMMYs that I shared in several previous DOUG MOVIE SHOUTOUTS POSTS back in 2025?

If no, then this image should bring back some memories.....

In the DISNEY Version's sophomore Season Premiere, DOUG is asked by CUBBY the 8th Grader if he's ever won an EMMY award.

Instead of replying "NO" when it came to his nonexistent Achievements, DOUG instead looks pissed off and crosses his hips.

I've done some research in the past and according to sources, this was likely a SELF-DEPRECATING joke made at the expense of JUMBO PICTURES who were STILL PISSED towards the EMMY AWARDS for giving the EMMY to both KLASKY CSUPO & AMBLIMATION in 1992 and 1993 after nominating DOUG for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Animated Programming.

Keep in mind this was during when DOUG was still NICKELODEON/MTV property but I have a hunch if I was born much earlier and I worked on DOUG that time, I'd too be annoyed at the prospect of DOUG losing to both RUGRATS

& TINY TOONS.

And say what you will about JIM's admitted infamous changes to shake things up but THE DISNEY VERSION OF DOUG was still Popular enough to warrant two more EMMY NOMINATIONS later in in 1999 and 2000.

But just like in the Nickelodeon years, it too didn't win them.

Instead, the EMMY's went to both

ARTHUR READ in 1999

&

ELMYRA DUFF in 2000......

Though in my mind, ELMYRA did not deserve that EMMY Award in 2000 because most people believe that WARNER BROS. shoehorning ELMYRA into PINKY & THE BRAIN pretty much ruined the concept of Two Lab Mice trying to take over the world...

In the words of PINKY & THE BRAIN:
"CURSE THAT EXECUTIVE AT WARNER BROS FOR SHOEHORNING
THAT GAL INTO OUR SHOW!!!"

To a point that when ANIMANIACS was revived on HULU back in 2019, The show removed ELMYRA from that lineup in favor of just the WARNER SIBLINGS and our beloved Lab Mice.

"Except,
we ain't payin DISNEY any CRAP
because WARNER BROS prohibits that!"

Yeah, that's my joke because HULU is DISNEY owned but ANIMANIACS is WARNER BROS. Property so SPIELBERG did try and waver an exception to avoid paying the MOUSE to use their STREAMING PLATFORM for the WARNER SIBLINGS.

A Bee in NOTTINGHAM's drunken regal antics:

In the 2001 N64 game CONKER'S BAD FUR DAY, at some point, you meet with this BEE

According to CHRIS SEAVOR, the guy who does the voice of CONKER THE SQUIRREL in the game, he was walking across the streets of NOTTINGHAM and met a Very SCRUFFY LOOKING man with a beard, and was very drunk.

The Drunken Nottingham man said to SEAVOR:

"DON'T SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT!!! IN MY COUNTRY, I AM KING!!!"

Unlike the BEE KING who could barely fit in the HIVE, The SCRUFFY MAN still could be comfortable in his own NOTTINGHAM APARTMENT FLAT with no worries, aside from a cranky landlord or the UK's insistence to use these annoying electric meters.

anyway, praise to BC HYDRO aside,

A Psycho Alien's connection to real world POLITICS in name only:

As mentioned in a post I did back in 2025, one of the main reasons people were turned off by the politics being used in the PREQUELS so extensively is because the same POLITICS were the very thing many fans wanted to get away from, especially in the wake of 9/11.

But there's more to this BASTARD than what meets the eye, aside from Actor SYLAS CARSON's misuse of a Chinese Accent for this dude.

VICEROY NUTE GUNRAY is indeed a SLIMEY BASTARD and a DIRTY COWARD and we all know that too well throughout the PREQUEL's 8 year production cycle but the name is....

Well it was GEORGE LUCAS' intentions for it to be both a BAD PUN and a TAKE THAT against two political figures that he disliked.

NUTE GUNRAY's name is a parody of Politician NEWT GINGRICH

George absolutely HATED Gingrich's politics with a burning passion, probably much more intense than the heat from MUSTAFAR.

Oh.... and another person that LUCAS hated was also RONALD REAGAN...

Why is LUCAS so against what even Liberals consider to be the greatest Politician in 1980s AMERICA you may ask?

Because in 1983, REAGAN initiated the STRATEGIC DEFENSE INITIATIVE, aka the STAR WARS program in which it would oversee the end of the COLD WAR by protecting the U.S from Soviet Missiles.

GEORGE, like all other people in AMERICA who were against REAGAN's First Term policies of the COLD WAR, criticized this program for a perceived recklessness despite the PROGRAM's promise to end the M.A.D doctrine and bring peace to both the WEST & the EAST Hemispheres.

A late 60s Song's original heartbreaking meaning:

If you're asked what comes to mind when you hear the words DAZED AND CONFUSED, your inclination is the 1993 movie or LED ZEPPELIN.

While the LED ZEPPELIN song is more known, the original version as sung by JAKE HOLMES was actually based on something more heartbreaking than one realizes.

It was based on a ROUGH breakup with HOLMES and his GIRLFRIEND.

Not something that music fans would want to hear so they figured that the song's lyrics was referring to a bad ACID TRIP
Nothing short of consuming SHIITAKE Mushrooms could shake off the negative emotions felt after a breakup but I needed a realistic Punchline without the trips.

The refrigerator is not an Air Conditioner and even a writer knew that:

Everybody knows that a refrigerator is not a SUBSTITUTE for air conditioning.
Seriously! The motor could go out if you use it that way and unfortunately for the late DAN MCGRATH, he had to learn that the hard way.

His childhood blunder with a refrigerator inspired the scene where HOMER and BART use their fridge to keep themselves cool.
"It's cool in here Boy!
For the rest of the summer of '94, we can live inside the refrigerator."

We all know what happens so just go watch it yourself.

I should have added more but I'm running out of examples.
And I have this problem where I spontaneously remember an example but when I get to typing, I forget.

So...... WRITING FROM REALITY as a series may be put on hold for the foreseeable future until I get my bearings
