And with it, no show could top it.
PEPPER ANN was good internal competition but she got trounced in the ratings by the kids of THIRD STREET ELEMENTARY School.
And despite verdant efforts by JIM JINKINS' to improve on Disney's DOUG after the rough start that was the 1996-1997 season, even that was not enough to prevent DOUG from being TROUNCED by RECESS in the ratings.
(Not helped by the still bitter NICK SERIES ELITISTS from 1991.)
Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the ONE SATURDAY MORNING's Internal Competition or competition with Late 90s Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network.
What I'm here to talk about is this Holiday Episode for DISNEY's RECESS.
This is an episode that while it still is a Christmas episode, it's more about the school celebrating the Christmas holidays before closing for the Winter Holiday.
But it's also a chance to have the characters prove to MIKEY that he's too old to believe that SANTA CLAUS is a real person.
Needless to say, this mantra doesn't go well with our character.
There's also a side story regarding the janitor HANK
"No way related to or affiliated with that Texan HANK HILL, I tell you what."
As seen in the TITLE CARD above,
Hank is awaiting SNOW on the ground but to his dismay,
It's as clean of a slate as the CURRENT VANCOUVER WEAHTER I'M LIVING IN:
NO SNOW in DECEMBER!!!
And the real culprit of no Snow in December is this stupid phenomenon we call EL NINO where there's a sharp rise in temperature in places which delays the snow to JANUARY or FEBRUARY.
Anyway, MIKEY does his best to make sure his Christmas spirit is of the UNBREAKABLE kind but eventually, it does get broken by his friends
But MIKEY does suffer an EMOTIONAL B.S.O.D over his friends trying to break him.
The only thing that can get him out of his funk is THE-ONE-AND-ONLY.....
LATE-GREAT- JAMES EARL JONES
Who tells MIKEY to believe in his heart regarding SANTA CLAUSE.
With that, it restores his faith in Jolly Old SAINT NICK.
And just in time for MIKEY to return to his role as SANTA CLAUS in a televised School Play.

When this episode originally aired. it was delayed from it's intended December 19 1998 airdate and that was because the timeslot was pre-empted for coverage on BILL CLINTON's Impeachment trial.
Not using more images of the trial so instead, I'm using this screenshot from the December 1997 film WAG THE DOG since that film hilariously predicted the Lewinsky Scandal by about a month.
To quote the movie:
"It's not a war, it's a pageant."
So this resulted in the episode premiering instead on BOXING DAY 1998.
Also, my coverage of this episode is about 5 years(soon to be 6) since we lost JASON DAVIS, the voice of MIKEY in RECESS, to fentanyl abuse.
And still to this day, I still am sore of the loss of JASON DAVIS.
