Another 30's Popeye gem-THE PANELESS WINDOW WASHER

I finished my POPEYE ARABIAN TECHNICOLOR posts back in 2023 but I decided that in order to keep this blog more active after almost 7 months of working on my Military Medical Commercial for the VMG VETERAN MEDICAL GROUP in California, let's take a step back to the 1930s when POPEYE was still KING and helped us forget the badness that was the GREAT DEPRESSION.

As usual, I'll only focus on the Fleischer Popeyes.

Mentions of the Popeyes from Famous Studios, Television, or the Hanna-Barbera,

ARE NOT ALLOWED ON MY BLOG!!!!

Anyway, what gem do we have today?

Why none other than this:

I saw this cartoon about 5 years ago on ARCHIVE.ORG during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and my oh my, did this lighten up my spirits despite the Virus Anxieties.

This cartoon has everything that I could ask for in a POPEYE Cartoon.

FROM THE FLEISHER era that is.

Though the print I saw from that time was heavily compressed.

Here in this blog, A super high quality Print with no artifacts and no AI Upscaling is a must!!!

The Cartoon starts with BLUTO having set up a Window Cleaning business in NEW YORK.

How does he start his business?

By proceeding to create a mess on the windows of a tall building.

After he does that, he gets his cleaning supplies and does what I think is a precursor to Dr. Livesey's PHONK WALK almost 86 years prior to the meme.

He climbs up the building and has the gall to announce he's cleaning the windows.

"WINDOW CLEANER!"

And then he proceeds to clean the windows.

He does this multiple times....

ANd then the camera pans to the Office of OLIVE OYL

I seriously love the way FLEISCHER's Animators animate the way OLIVE types on her Olivetti Typewriters....

And prevent the feed roller from falling onto the floor.

Bluto opens up the window to Olive's office, offering his services.
"WINDOW CLEANER!"

But Olive rebuffs the offer.
"Uh, Not today, Thank you."

Bluto, Who's offscreen, is confused
"*Bluto*
What do you mean NOT TODAY, THANK YOU!?"

Well Bluto, here's the reason:
"CAUSE I'M GONNA DO THEM!!!
That's why not today, thank you!"

Looks like Olive has a backup plan as always.

Then Popeye does what he's promised to do.

Bluto is not amused that Popeye is doing a better job using more mundane methods.

So he demonstrates to Popeye that he can do things the more adrenaline, dangerous, and fun methods.

For some reason, Bluto causes Popeye to trip due to his brush.

Thank balls POPEYE was able to hold on for dear life.
"Hey, You're about to knock somebody off!!!"

Popeye proceeds to bend himself to regain his footing on the windows.

Once again, Popeye is not impressed with Bluto with the way he did the window work.
"Ahh, That's Kindergarten stuff."

"Wait till you get a load of these suspenders!"

"I'll show you how to do it!"

Then Popeye proceeds to use his suspenders to bounce throughout the New York Skyscraper, just to show Bluto how to clean windows the way a younger man age 40 and under does it.

Keep in mind that the suspender animation is all in sync and Candence with the music.

Bluto however is still not amused.

First, he punches Popeye in order to make him fall to his death.

When that fails,

he then decides to trap Popeye on the window frame.

Even that is not enough to deter the Sailorman.

Looks like Popeye is pissed

to the point he punches Bluto so hard, he can't keep his ground.

Bluto eventually gets his ground at the other building but boy is he mighty pissed.

Of course, you can't have a Popeye Cartoon without an obligatory fight between Popeye & Bluto.

All while Olive is watching the fight between the two.

And understandably freaked out about the ordeal.

Popeye and Bluto eventually punch each other while climbing the building.

Until.....

And as usual, I'll have to end this post right here.

Not just because I don't want to spoil any surprises but the rest of the cartoon is filled with so many goodness such as the fight between Popeye and Bluto.

If you're thinking the cartoon is on PARAMOUNT+?

Don't think so lightly of this. Not with David Ellison in charge.

And besides, the Fleischer Popeye cartoons are all on the PUBLIC DOMAIN so a quick Google(or DUCKDUCKGO) Search to ARCHIVE.ORG is a must.

Let me know what other Popeye Cartoons you want me to provide overviews about.

I'll gladly oblige.
