Maverick Quickie-Doug predicted the popularity of Ocarinas 7 years before Zelda did

November 2023......

It was the month when I made the big upgrade from my ZOTAC Twin Edge RTX 3060 to the GIGABYTE EAGLE RTX 4080 I currently use now.

But more importantly, it was also the 25th Anniversary of one of the greatest ZELDA games to come out on the Nintendo 64.

That game is THE LEGEND OF ZELDA OCARINA OF TIME.

But now is not the time to talk about a personal favorite Zelda game of mine. What the main topic of this Maverick Quickie is all about is the fact that DOUG predicted Ocarinas getting popular way back in 1991.

Now you might look at that screenshot from Nickelodeon's Doug and say
"That's not what an Ocarina looks like".

That's only if you think Ocarinas are supposed to look like the ones from ZELDA.

But the reality is that Ocarinas date back long before Zelda and long before DOUG.

In fact, the very first Ocarina dates way back 12000 years ago.

And they come in all shapes and sizes.

So it may be possible that Skeeter here knows a whole lot about Ocarinas and multiculturalism to the point he was able to mold his own Ocarina with Cafeteria food or so he says in the Talent Show episode.
However, Ocarina sales didn't really skyrocket until November 21st 1998 when Ocarina of Time released to store shelves.

That also happened to be the same date when the Disney's Doug episode
DOUG AND THE BLUFFINTON FIVE aired on tv.

But I bet several kids back then would rather rush to their nearest BEST BUY, GAMESTOP, EB GAMES, WALMART, or TARGET to buy their copy of Ocarina of Time than to indulge more on Doug Funnie's latest antics.

But I bet that's not the only time you would see Ocarinas in media like that.

2 Years after Ocarina of Time but several months before Majora's Mask, a certain girl by the name of Melody played the Ocarina to charm both Ash and Lugia.
Yes, Pokémon the Movie 2000, the Power of One still kept the Ocarina popularity alive and well.

Why didn't the Ocarina return in games like Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, or Tears of the Kingdom, is the biggest mystery to me.

By the way, I still have my Ocarina of Time Cartridge and believe it or not, it's the Rev. 1.0 release if you're gonna ask me what revision of Cartridge I have.

And yes, I also have it on Nintendo GameCube via the Collectors Edition as well as the 2011 Nintendo 3DS remake.
