If you've read, our favorite Sailor Man from the relative start of the Great Depression has entered the Public Domain come forth January 1 2025
But that's only for Comic POPEYE when he originally debut on Thimble Theatre on January 17 1929 as shown below.
Animation Popeye will remain unaffected for the time being despite the fact that many of his old FLEISCHER cartoons and to a lesser extent his FAMOUS cartoons are already in the Public Domain because PARAMOUNT didn't renew the copyrights for said cartoons.
Everything Popeye related that's still under copyright are all with KING FEATURES so that's that.
Looks like Steamboat Mickey Mouse won't be alone when it comes to Cartoon Characters entering the Public Domain but what I am worried about is the fact that somehow, them Independent Horror Filmmakers are going to use this as an excuse to make a cheap Slasher piece of crap film where they portray Popeye as a serial Killer or some murderer wearing a Popeye Mask to conceal their identity.
I can't prevent that but if so, please don't overdo it.
Also, this POPEYE isn't just entering the Public Domain by himself.
Joining him is this Belgian Character who goes by the name of TINTIN.
But his entrance to the Public Domain is only for NORTH AMERICA as his Copyright status in his home country of BELGIUM remains unaffected.
Again, I'm worried about them same Horror Filmmakers misusing the Tintin character for cheap CRAP horror films seeing as BLOOD & HONEY and MOUSE TRAP did terribly when they released but whoever's continuing on renewing the Belgian Copyright can easily just block the films from reaching there so our favorite Belgian reporter has got his protection from Public Domain misuse.
