If you've heard on the Internet via Social Media or your email, Nintendo has just announced the all new NINTENDO SWITCH 2 Hybrid Console
I was sort of anticipating that that's what the system would look like after seeing all those Plaster Mockups leaked at CES despite Nintendo vehemently denying the leaks.
But I'm guessing it's better than nothing, especially when you're trying to make a console look like the previous one such as it's 2017 predecessor like this guy shown below:While I still have my Launch Model Switch in the house, it's busted up now.
So now I currently have the OLED which is this guy shown below:But anyway, the physical dimensions of the Switch 2 are roughly going to be the same as the previous Switch so that means I can probably still use my TEARS OF THE KINGDOM travel case I got for my OLED back in November 2024.... Maybe.....
And yes, I've got screenshots from Nintendo's Reveal Video that I'll use as per part of my Video Breakdowns and Commentary:
Here's the Classic Nintendo Switch.
Detached
Like a Pokémon undergoing Evolution, the base unit changes....
This animation of the Switch undergoing it's evolution sort of reminds me of the
PS5 reveal from June 2020.
Judging from the kickstand,
The Switch 2 is borrowing some design philosophies from the OLED model.
Of Course, Nintendo doesn't want to leave the Joy-cons out in the dark so they give it the evolution treatment too.
Sort of rehashed as if they're following Sony's philosophy on Controller designs but these are brand new Joy-Cons. Just with a more sleek aesthetic.
Kind of reminds me of the design transition from the DualShock 4 to the DualSense Controller
The new Joy-Cons are highly anticipated for two reasons.
One is that they finally use Hall-Effects for the Analog Stick..... well sort of.I've read that Nintendo filed a patent for their own take on Hall-Effects so not the one's the third parties use due to gamers getting sick of the worn out tooling used for manufacturing of the Good-Old Fashioned potentiometers we've been using since the late 90s...
But hopefully, this will put a halt on the Drift Issues that's plagued the Switch for the last 8 years.
(I've discarded two Joy-Cons due to the Drift)
NINTENDO ATTACH
just because of the nature of Magnets in general
But instead, Nintendo decided to call it
The reveal can't be complete without a minor demonstration of what software it'll use.
But alas,
The reveal can't be complete without a minor demonstration of what software it'll use.
And software to demonstrate?
Why none other than...
I've heard of people raising a stink about this teaser for Mario Kart using
Donkey Kong's infamous movie design.....
But my major concern is Nintendo grafting Mario's head model from the
Mario RPG 2023 Remake on Mario's regular sized body.
The Switch 2 will come with it's own dock.
But not just that, but I've also heard that there'll be updates for those who have these games and the Newer Switch 2 which will enhance the older games for the newer hardware....
And to partially end with a Magnetic Salutation.
But wait, there's more....
Yes, as stated, the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with the previous generation Switch.
Soft of like how the Series X enhances older Xbox, 360, and ONE games with it's hardware.
I know this because I've read about internal tech demos and enhancements to games like how Breath of the Wild supports 4K60FPS on the Switch 2.
And yes, they even tested the Unreal Engine 5 demo for THE MATRIX AWAKENS.
But we'll have to wait until Nintendo Direct April 2025 before we get more info on the Switch 2.
But I did read that Nintendo is doing everything they can to avoid the Scalper issues that plagued the launch of the PS5, Xbox Series X, and RTX 30 series cards back in the Holiday of 2020....
Though we are already past the Chip Shortage so I'm sure the launch of the Switch 2 will be a breeze when it releases sometime later this year.
And from what I know, this will be in 4K resolution but fortunately, I've got my Hisense 4K Tv for that occasion.
I noticed that there was no announcement of a Handheld Exclusive version of the new console but considering I'm not a fan of the 2019 Switch Lite handheld, that's a given considering that the Switch Lite can't compete with the later Steam Deck, ASUS ROG ALLY, etc. in terms of raw power,
that and the fact that the joy-cons are fused with the handheld so that causes even more problems when if the sticks drift.
I've stated before that using an Ampere based chipset for Graphics is pretty much long in the tooth for 2025 but considering the big N wants to honor the legacy of the late Gunpei Yokoi, as well as lower the costs which explains going with a regular LED display instead of OLED,

I can give this troper some slack.
And yes, I plan to buy my Switch 2 when it releases because support for the Console is essential.
