Alright. I'll spill the beans for you all.
DOUG FUNNIE HAS THE SAME VOICE ACTOR AS SON GOKU....
In Japanese no doubt.
That being:
Born October 25 1936, Masako has a pretty large resume of acting roles,
Both domestic Japanese anime, and dubbing others properties such as western animation and live-action.
We all know Nozawa-San is the voice of Son Goku, and the rest of his family who share his lineage.
I was surprised when I found out Doug was voiced by a Saiyan in Japanese.
In English , Doug is performed by male actors.
Actually.... two of them.......
The most well known being Billy West (*Yiping Happily in Porkchop's Voice*),
who is also known for being the voice of Stimpy, Red M&M, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Rancid Rabbit, Fry, Zoidberg, Professor Farnsworth. Zapp Brannigan,
and many more.
But his role as Doug Funnie was only on the Nickelodeon version.
Circa August 1991 to January 1994.
Much to our chagrin, Doug in the Disney Version was portrayed by....
Thomas McHugh (*Growls in Porkchop's voice*)
Why they replaced West?
Because stupid Michael Eisner and his legion of execs refused to give Billy West a higher pay salary without affecting the show’s budget.
I can only wish you'd say that in real life, Michael Eisner.
"I'm still a better man than Bob Chapek or David Zaslav combined."
You've changed since your 2005 ouster.
But regardless of whether you want to rant about an actor refusing to accept his pay or at Michael Eisner’s antics circa 1996, I highly doubt Doug’s Quailman superhero persona would be willing to pick a fight with a Saiyan like Goku.
With the exception of using his Quail-Eye to mind control his enemies, Doug believes in brains and diplomacy.
Goku on the other hand, while a nice guy and all, would rather seek fights as a thrill for him to seek.
After all, this is coming from a guy who despite being born with dismal potential, managed to climb to the ranks of godhood and undergo transformations and acquiring of power,
All which piss off his friend/rival Vegeta.
Why did I do this Post?
Because of the anticipated release of Dragon Ball DAIMA, which is officially the very last series that Akira Toriyama personally worked on before succumbing to Cerebral Hematoma earlier this March.
Let's hope DAIMA lives up to Toriyama's promises.
Update as of October 28 2024:
Well.... I missed out on a blogpost or update on Masako Nozawa's 88th Birthday back on Friday October 25.....
But I had work to do that day so I barely had time... so....
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY NOZAWA-SAN.
