And thank you all for supporting my Blogposts as of recently. I was surprised with how popular my previous WRITING FROM REALITY Post had become.
22 Views shortly after uploading? That's quite a feet.
(That number will change soon.)
Anyway
So sit back, Grab yourself a bag of LAYS or DORITOS,
(Compliment it with a can of PEPSI MADE WITH REAL SUGAR)
And read along
Vincent Waller & the Rubber Salesman with a Bible on their hand:
The classic episode RUBBER NIPPLE SALESMEN from 1992 has a very interesting history related to a writer/animator's childhood.
While the episode is about REN & STIMPY selling Rubber Nipples to people in DECENTVILLE, USA,
often with the two dealing with unscrupulous people that are either wacko like the FIRE CHIEF
"Sorry. I thought you were CIRCUS MIDGETS!"
paranoid like MR. HORSE here,
No sir. Mr. Horse doesn't like this blogpost.
or just plain suspicious....
Like Mr. Pipe looking down at REN & STIMPY here.
The episode was actually based on a similar incident to SpongeBob writer/technical director VINCENT WALLER's childhood where he actually had to accompany his mother not for safety reasons but because he had to work with his mother as JEHOVA'S WITNESSES
I don't see JEHOVAH's WITNESSES coming door to door around my neighborhood.... or maybe it's because I live in CANADA and while we do have JEHOVAH's in CANADA, they aren't are frequent due to privacy concerns so I guess they're more common in the USA's BIBLE BELT region.
But we do have something similar. I sometimes see evangelists outside some Skytrain Entrances whenever I do my shopping at Metrotown Mall or Pacific Centre at Downtown Vancouver.
Anyway, the door-to-door sales pitch of the rubber nipples in the episode are based on WALLER witnessing his mother having to knock on doors of people that might by bizarre or unpleasant.
Or as he describes in his childhood as
"You never know who's gonna open that door."
Digital Circus's Connection to a well known restaurant:
The episode FAST FOOD MASQUERADE is actually based on a real life experience with series creator GOOSEWORX having actually worked at an actual MCDONALDS at one point.Go watch the episode on your spare time.
Trust me and you'll understand the pain most people went through working at Fast Food joints with sporadic wages and the like.
GHIBLI & Aircrafts:
It's because HAYAO MIYAZAKI is heavily enthralled by old airplanes that were often used during IMPERIAL JAPAN's war periods.
Makes sense since he actually had to work at his parents Parent's Airplane Factory during both WWII and after the end of the war/Recovery period.
Maybe that's why when you see planes in many GHIBLI movies, they're all of the older Pre-1940s style of planes with propellers & weaker engines compared to today's jet turbines.
And even if they're of the Military style planes with much more powerful engines, Miyazaki still prefers the older style of Military Planes, especially those used WWII.
Two movies that I can think of that use Planes as a heavy emphasis are
&
That last one, THE WIND RISES, I remember back in 9th Grade reading up about the hype for the film and how it was at one point going to be the very last film directed by HAYAO MIYAZAKI but he later rescinded those remarks which I think is a good thing since he later would do 2023's A BOY AND THE HERON.
I'm ARMIN ARLETT & this is SHOPPING CART MAYHEM:
ATTACK ON TITAN's ARMIN ARLETT's scream has connections to MTV's JACKASS.
ON the DUB side of things.
JESSE JAMES GRELLE(Formerly known as JOSH GRELLE) based ARMIN's scream from one episode on an incident involving shopping carts and teen hood.
The story goes that GRELLE dared their friends to push them downhill on a shopping cart in HOUSTON, TEXAS.
Their friends accept the dare, pushed the shopping cart, and GRELLE let out a real gut-wrenching SCREAM.
Years later, They used that memory of the incident to provide the scream for ARMIN as he watched his friend EREN get devoured.
However, FUNIMATION ended up using the second take which had ARMIN still screaming but it sounded like GRELLE had it under control.
I would have preferred if the ADR Director instead used the first take which had a more GUT-WRENCHING scream and that's the scream GRELLE used during a 2014 convention panel when taking about the show.
Try comparing that to when Viggo Mortenson stubbed his toe and that scream he uttered was the one they used in the LORD OF THE RINGS movies.
-I'll update this part of the post with photos when the time permits.-
Don't dynamite them whales or else.
On November 1970, Some people in Florence, Oregon decided to use dynamite to get rid of a stinky Whale Carcass that washed up on a beach.
The result was quite a mess.In what was susposed to be a clean disposal of a dead whale carcass via using dynamite and TNTs, resulted in a much more messier disposal that's even more messy than if the Whale had naturally exploded due to gas buildup.
About 40 years later in April 25 2010, THE SIMPSONS aired the Season 21 episode THE SQUIRT AND THE WHALE which features LISA SIMPSON trying to save a beached whale named BLUELLA. She efforts fail much to her sadness.
Naturally, SPRINGFIELD, ANY STATE decides to dispose of Bluella by following the same example used by the city of Florence.
But rather than dispose of the whale just for getting rid of the smell sakes, Springfield's disposal was to honor the memory of Bluella the beached whale.
Naturally, the results are as disastrous as the 1970 explosion.
But also a good cautionary tale on Whale Carcass Disposal.
I may follow this up with a part 06 in the future once i find more references.
