I read a Wikipedia Article about Roger Klotz and I nearly split in laughter.
Take a look at what I circled here via my WACOM ONE tablet.
So it inspired me to create another CLASH POST.
So this time,
it's Nelson Muntz from THE SIMPSONS
Vs.
Roger Klotz from DOUG (Both Nickelodeon and Disney)
The similarity between the two is that they Bully their target which is a Central Character to the show they're from.
But despite their bullying of said Central Character, they eventually become friends with their target.
But the two actually would become friends since then
with the only antagonism that Nelson displays towards others being Milhouse and Martin.
with the only antagonism that Nelson displays towards others being Milhouse and Martin.
I'm sorry to who ever wrote that article but I think you need to update it a little.
Roger Klotz may be a bully to Doug Funnie but the reality is that Roger desperately needs a close friend and it's been firmly established as early as the Nickelodeon era circa August 11 1991.
I'm guessing having Willie White, Boomer Bledsoe, and Ned Cauphee don't count as friends since he just uses them as fodder for taking the blame game
And I guess before the Disney era,
Roger probably punched Willie White's buck teeth out during a fight in the summer of 1996.
Ned's lucky he still has his eyes intact,
and Boomer probably refused to watch Star Trek Voyager on TV.
During both the Nickelodeon and Disney eras, Roger picks on Doug because secretly he desperately wants to be friends with Doug.
But not just that,
He wants to be as equal of a best friend to DOUG as he is to Skeeter.
Which have may have led to fights between Skeeter and Roger.
Going as far back as Fall 1993 during the tail-end of the Nick series due to the impending Budget Freeze from VIACOM when they purchased PARAMOUNT, Roger becomes supportive of DOUG's crush with Patti.
Don't worry. Their fights are nothing short but just verbal spats.
As Grand Moff Tarkin from would say "THIS BICKERING IS POINTLESS."
And for Roger, he can always count on DOUG to cover his back from Danger.
Other things that establish Roger wanting to be nice to Doug are also from said Nick era.
In 1992, Roger held a party for Doug.
"What kind of party Roger?"
"Glad you asked Funnie!!!"
Remember the 1993 episode where Roger assigned DOUG to take care of his cat Stinky?
It seems like DOUG is the only person Roger can trust to take care of his Cat.
When Roger became rich in 1996, he'd rather flaunt his newfound wealth towards all his friends.Including towards DOUG FUNNIE.
To a point where starting in Fall 1997, DOUG would be happy to sic Lamar Bone on Roger because rich bastard or not, Roger can never get away from his orange skinned nemesis.
"And the Bone doesn't give a damn about former students who've suddenly became rich.
A delinquent is still the same to me, through and through.
THREE MONTHS DETENTION!!!! PDQ!!!! "
I can only imagine if when the series gets revived, which Disney and Jim Jinkins have approved since late 2023 and is in the early planning stages, Lamar Bone would wiretap Roger's Samsung Galaxy Flip Phone to the school's Wi-Fi just to keep a watch on him PDQ.
Or maybe figure out Roger's bank info and take a majority of his money as punishment for flaunting his wealth.
Or trick Roger into accepting an embezzlement scam just so he can have an excuse to throw Roger behind bars at the Augusta Correctional Center.
Bone is impervious to those who flaunt their wealth, especially those same green mooks whom The Bone knew in elementary school.
Another thing to fully validate Doug and Roger being friends in the end is that Roger is based on a former bully that DOUG creator Jim Jinkins knew back in his high school days.
The Original Roger Klotz from Jim Jinkin's Childhood
Just like with Doug and Roger, Jim's bully would later become friends.
In an old 2013 web article, Jim mentioned that by the time DOUG'S 1ST MOVIE premiered in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia, he reached out to the original Roger Klotz who served as the inspiration for the animated Roger and pleaded for this man not to beat him up just for using him as inspiration for our favorite Green Anti-Hero.
Quite a redemption arc for the original man who served as the inspiration for the Lean Mean Green kid in Doug (1991-1999).
