Mickey Mouse already had a brush with Horror Films back in 1995

Yeesh. As if STEAMBOAT WILLIE entering the public domain wasn't stressful enough for the parent company who tried to extend it's copyright, now the people in the Horror Film space are at it again.

Just a year after the release of the awful BLOOD & HONEY, (Which by sheer coincident is a result of Winnie the Pooh entering the public domain back in 2022), Now I've been hearing the buzz about this flick.

Unlike BLOOD & HONEY, this film is about a guy who dresses up like Steamboat Mickey and straight up murders people.

A little overblown but at least it's an original character who dresses up like a character but I still won't watch it. Mostly because Modern Horror movies just aren't going to cut it anymore.

In fact, Disney already made a horror flick starring Mickey Mouse and way back in 1995.

Yeah, I bet half of you have forgotten about this but for those who remembered, I applaud you.

This is Runaway Brain, a 1995 short film starring Mickey Mouse, animated by Andreas Deja.

What sets this apart from the other animated shorts or films Disney was doing back in the day was that it was a shift to doing a new take in horror and edge.

While edge it achieved, Disney at one point had been trying to bury the film and never speak of it again due to how sick the executives felt about treating their mascot like that.

I mean come on, a mouse switching bodies with a giant Pete look-alike cat and wrecking havoc like that?

If a company didn't want to choke down a brain-switched Mickey around, how do they feel about a horror movie where a guy dons a costume based on the mouse?
"I'm the original Horror Mickey Incarnate. If that costumed killer comes to an AMC theatre near you, I'll just sic Julius at them!"

Blood and Honey did pretty awful when it released so I don't have high hopes for Mouse Trap but we'll wait and see.

Why am I comparing MOUSE TRAP to RUNAWAY BRAIN, I saw on Facebook that someone said we don't need another horror film with Mickey in it since it was already done.
He even made a meme about it. Unfortunately, I didn't save the meme but I did at least want to point out the obvious implication before Andreas does that on his blog DEJA VIEW.

Oh my days, I don't even want to imagine his reaction when the film is released...

And there's no emoji for how I'm feeling here.

As for Runaway Brain, Disney has been much kinder to the film since they acknowledge the cult following it accrued in the recent years.
