My Childhood PCs+Evolution of my PC Usage.

Omaha and Teen Titans Posts are definitely on the backburner and pending posting but I refuse to let myself post another Maverick Quickie aside from the recent cat update so instead for filler, Let's take a look back my Childhood Computers I've had since... well... my early childhood...

And you can clearly see why I'm so obsessed with computers even to this day.

01. Compaq Presario 5477

That computer above was my very first Computer that I had.... or really my family bought.

And the kicker: It's evidence that I've been using computers since I was 1 year old.

The specs however weren't that great though. A Google Search for this model came up and it had:

Motherboard: Intel Socket 370 Micro-ATX

CPU: Intel Celeron Mendocino 500MHZ Single-Core

Memory: 64MB of Kingston PC100 DRAM

Hard Drive:13GB Western Digital Caviar HDD

Display: 17" Compaq MV520 CRT Monitor

Speakers: JBL Pro Speakers Included with Presario

Keyboard: Compaq Multimedia Keyboard Included with Presario

Mouse: Compaq 2-Button PS\2 Mouse included with Presario

Printer: Lexmark Z31 Inkjet Printer included with our Compaq Presario

Case: OEM Micro-ATX Case from Compaq

PSU: 250W Lite-On Power Supply

Operating System: Windows 98SE(OEM from Compaq)

My dad bought this computer. Honestly, I don't know if it was for work or the primary focus was just for getting into the internet but he bought it no matter what.

I had my share of fun with this machine even though my parents cherry-picked the software for me which was limited mostly just to edutainment software.

But there was this one game that came with our Compaq called INCOMING.

Unfortunately, that 500mhz Intel Celeron often refused to boot this game up.

And even when we managed to get this game running, Incoming ran poorly on our Compaq.

Plus, My dad didn't know of OPEN ARCHITECTURE at the time and thought the computers were locked in architecture just like the MACs are.

But I digress, I still had fun with this machine.

02. Vobis Highscreen Sky ATX

My Second Computer and a personal favorite of mine from Childhood.

My family had this from 2000 up until 2005 or so.

Again, Specs were balls.

Motherboard: Intel Socket 370 or GIGABYTE Socket A. Both ATX

CPU: Either a Pentium III or AMD Athlon but I don't know if it was over 1GHZ.

Memory: Going to say 128MB or 256MB of Crucial PC100 DRAM

Hard Drive: 30GB Western Digital HDD

Display: 17" Acer CRT Monitor at first. Then we switched to a 21" KDS CRT Monitor. Both were VGA Monitors.

Speakers: VTech Laser Juster Speakers.

Keyboard: Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard

Mouse: Acer-Branded Logitech 2-Button Emerald Green PS\2 Mouse

Case: OEM Mid-Tower ATX Case from Vobis.

Printer: Lexmark Z31 Inkjet Printer(Hold Over from Compaq Presario)

PSU: 300W Sparkle Power Supply

Operating System: At first Windows 95 OSR2 & then Windows 98SE.

While I have a lot of memories using this PC, again, my parents cherry picked my software and they were mostly just Edutainment so that meant no Unreal, no Rayman, and certainly no GTA in my household.

But this Computer has survived at minimum 4 moves across 4 houses in Vancouver.

I'm sure the computer ran on Integrated Graphics because I wasn't allowed to look at the back of the machine or even use a screwdriver during my Toddler years.

Sound probably was Integrated as usual but please don't ask if I had a Crystal Audio or an A3D Aureal Vortex chipset Built-In.

It had a Floppy Drive and a Zip Drive but my dad removed the Zip Drive at some point because it either caused some IRQ conflicts with the motherboard or the Zip Drive broke.

We didn't have a cover for that bay so he just covered that area with tape to prevent dust from getting inside the internals.

As seen below, we eventually replaced the Acer Monitor with this Massive 21" KDS Monitor that I've been talking about in my previous posts on Large Gaming Monitors.

but alas, this Computer eventually kicked the bucket when it's hard drive crapped out and gave us multiple errors on startup.

Aside from getting upset over losing this gem of a PC, at least it didn't succumb to the infamous capacitor plague, otherwise, the computer wouldn't even boot.

03. MDG Horizon 2400

My Windows XP machine from the mid-2000s until June 2011.

That MDG in the image above isn't mine.
This is what happens when I don't have proper closeup photos of my Computers or I do have photos but the image isn't bright enough.

The specs were:

Motherboard: Intel LGA 775 Micro-ATX Motherboard

CPU: LGA 775 Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8GHZ

Memory: 4GB of Samsung DDR2 800 Ram

Hard Drive: 80GB Samsung HDD

Graphics: Mostly likely one with Integrated ATI Radeon

Display: 17" Samsung Syncmaster CRT Monitor we got with MDG Horizon.

Switched to a 19" ViewSonic LCD Monitor in 2009.

Speakers: Subwoofer Speakers included with PC

Keyboard: Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard

Mouse: Microsoft Intellipoint 3-Button USB Mouse (With USB to PS\2 Adapter)

Case: OEM Mid-Tower from MDG

PSU: 650W Thermaltake PSU

Printer: Lexmark Z816 Inkjet Printer included with our MDG Horizon

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

At one point, Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex(For Linux Test Purposes)

Notes: Went through several Keyboards with this machine. I also had a USB Webcam that I've used for some early YouTube Videos I made in the past but often at times, I mostly used it as my microphone.

If there's one Computer that I've used the most in my Childhood, it's gotta be this one. My mother actually purchased this Online using one of my Dad's Laptops but it was actually my dad Reuben Martinez who not only went to pick it up but also set up Windows XP and all out configurations.

As for software, At first, it was mostly Edutainment software but eventually I diversified my tastes.

I remember playing a Train Simulator,

Battleship Simulator,

A Dragon Spin Puzzle Game,

Creatrix,

A game where you play as a Polar Bear throwing Ice blocks to his penguin friend while avoiding Mad Pianos,

No, Not that Mad Piano!!!
And yes, you can trick the Mad Piano into getting stuck on a chair.

Later in it's service life, sometime in Late January of Early February 2009,
My dad thought it should be time I have this in my bedroom so I did and it's where I at one Point had a YouTube Account... which I won't talk further about.

But alas, all good things must come to an end. The machine eventually got infected with a Trojan Horse and despite valiant efforts, we couldn't save it.

The thing was then reformatted and stored away.

And then I switched to Laptops.

04:HP Pavilion Laptop

Sorry. No Photos. Doesn't matter since this was one of my Least Favorite Laptops.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium 356M Haswell 2.5GHZ Dual-Core

Memory: 8GB Samsung DDR3 1333 SO-DIMM Ram

Hard Drive: 750GB Western Digital Blue HDD

GPU: Integrated Intel HD Graphics

OS: Windows 8.1

Later upgraded for free to Windows 10.

Go ahead! Make fun of my HP Pavilion! I don't care!

Only good thing was that I at least had a laptop that let me emulate my favorite consoles as well as use this for my art.

Oh and the Hard Drive wasn't bad. At 750GB, it was swell to have even in 2014.

And at least the Battery was detachable unlike with Today's Laptops.

I didn't know about holding the Power Button to hard-power-off so removing that battery and reinserting it really helped me win fights against my Pavilion.

05: Mid-2009 MacBook Pro

After the experience with my HP Laptop, I needed something MAC like since I was obsessed with them back in the day.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHZ Dual-Core

Memory: 2GB DDR3 1066 SDRAM

GPU: Integrated NVIDIA Geforce 9400M 256MB

Hard Drive: 500GB HDD

Operating System: Mac OSX Mavericks

Say no more. I used this more for my art.

06. MSI GP62M 7RDX Leopard Laptop

It was the Pandemic but my Macbook Pro was too outdated for my software I needed for my studies... and I refused an AIR model so instead, I switched back to PCs and went for this MSI Laptop.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 7700HQ Kaby Lake 2.8GHZ Quad-Core

Memory: 16GB Crucial DDR4 2400 SO-DIMM Ram

GPU: Integrated Intel 630 HD Graphics & Nvidia GTX 1050 2GB Chipsets

Storage: 128GB Kingston M.2 SSD & 1TB HGST HDD

Keyboard: Built-In Steelseries Scissor-Switch Keyboard

                  Microsoft USB Wireless Keyboard

Mouse: Microsoft USB Mouse

              Logitech USB Wireless Mouse

Used this most for my College years between 2020 to 2022. Did fight with the Kingston SSD for it's low amount of memory.

Barring the May 1 2022 accidentally breaking of my OS, this thing is still swell.

PS: I still Own this laptop still to this day but I might have to say goodbye to this MSI and get a new laptop in the future. Who knows. Maybe another MSI Laptop.

I did have an IMAC G3 All-in-One back in 2005 but that eventually crapped out.

I also had an HP Windows 2000 Desktop in 2006 but that eventually was gotten rid of later in life.
