Unlike with the Urusei Yatsura 2022 Revival, the Ranma revival will not be animated by David Productions but instead by MAPPA.
Of course, just like with Urusei Yatsura, the art will still deviate a little away from Rumiko Takahashi's art just to suit the style by the art director but then again, the news of new Ramna content is fascinating on it's own right.
But what pleases me is the Return of some the Surviving Actors of the Japanese Cast.
For sure on who's confirmed to return:
Kappei Yamaguchi as Male Ranma,
Megumi Hayashibara as Female Ranma,
Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendo,
Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendo,
Koichi Yamadera as Ryoga Hibiki,
&
Rei Sakuma as Shampoo
Akio Otsuka will replace Ryunosuke Obayashi as Soun Tendo,
and Cho will replace Kenichi Ogata as Genma Saotome.....
while Kenichi Ogata will return as the new Narrator.
For sure, characters like Kuno, Happosai, Cologne, and Ukyo are going to have to be recast due to the deaths of their original actors....
Especially UKYO..... because I'm still torn over the death of Hiromi Tsuru even 7 years later....
The revival will premiere in Japan on October 5 2024.
Afterwards, the International Broadcast will be on Netflix.... so effectively, this makes the Ranma Revival a Netflix Original Anime.
No word on whether the Dub Cast from the 90s will return but considering Viz Media owns the international rights, I'm sure they will call on the likes of Richard Ian Cox, Venus Terzo, Kelly Sheridan, Michael Donovan, Miriam Sirois, Ian James Corlett, etc to return to their respective roles.
But here's my plea to Viz Media:
DUB THE REVIVAL IN VANCOUVER!!!! NOT LOS ANGELES!!!
A Bang Zoom Dub of Ranma 1/2 will not feel the same because of the lack of that Canadian touch to the voices.
I can let Bang Zoom slide scot-free with their dub of Yashahime but not Ranma.
Ranma's Netflix dub must be made Vancouver.
Through and through.
But at least I'm very happy to hear that the surviving Japanese Cast is going to reprise their roles.
Anyway, see you all on October 5 and October 6 for more Ranma News.
