I read this article on TV Tropes about this thing called INK SUIT ACTING.
What is that? It's where a character is made to look like the actor who portrays that character in particular.
Take for example Fiona from Shrek. The human Fiona has her face modelled to look a lot like her voice actress Cameron Diaz.
Why do they do this? Because Executives, that's why.
Executives think that they know who to choose, especially if it's a character they see on paper and they decide, "I WANT THAT PARTICULAR ACTOR TO PLAY THAT CHARACTER."
When that happens, it completely forgoes the audition process in favor of that particular executive or group of executives getting their intended actor just because they have all the veto power.
Sometimes, it's not the executives who choose the actors but rather somebody in production. That would explain why characters like GENIE were written for ROBIN WILLIAMS.
Some actors can at least tolerate this but others like Billy West criticize this as stunt casting.
Really, I don't blame him.
And get this, sometimes, the ink suit acting is purely out of coincidence.
How else would you expect to find the facial similarities between Castle in the Sky's Muska and his dub actor MARK HAMILL?
But yeah, In my opinion, the act of casting a character and copying his/her face needs to simmer down because I get where the criticisms are coming from. Raw talent is more important than capitalizing on an actor's image.
YEESH! Talk about embarrassing. I know this is just a short article I'm typing but I'm seriously lacking relevant photos. Guess this is what happens when I use my work computer to type my blogs instead of my Custom Built PC since that has my external hard drive containing my photos.
