Maverick Foods 03-DALAT Vietnamese Noodle Soup

To be fair, I have had a weakness for Vietnamese food since Childhood.

I remember my parents would take me to this one Vietnamese Restaurant near the former ROGERS VIDEO STORE(Now a Temporary LONDON DRUGS) on Hastings Street, 

The restaurant was BAO CHAU.

we eat some noodle soup there.

It's not just noodles but also beef, sliced veggies, Dry Noodles, Pork Patties, etc.

(BAO CHAU unfortunately closed down sometime in late 2021.)

We then moved until we decided on another HASTINGS Location called PHO 66 near the KOOTENAY BUS LOOP. 

Up until 2008, we used to frequent there as well since it was at close proximity to my old house at Georgia Street and later at Francis Street, Victoria Drive.

After the closure of PHO 66, we then went to another HASTINGS location where we frequented there until sometime in 2011 due to other things.

Now, I frequent in this restaurant near my home called DALAT.

The name is actually a continuation of a former restaurant called PHO HUE

but from what I can gather, it's family owned so the ownership transferred from the parents to the children.

Something quite rare but also heartwarming.

Anyway, it's been a while so I decided to make a stop by on Wednesday December 18 2024.

My usual order there has always been the BEEF BALL Soup.

It's Vietnamese Noodles in hot broth with Beef Balls.

Also I had Spring Roles with FISH SAUCE to dip them into.

How was the food?

Not perfect but still, it's better than nothing. 

And I actually like that the restaurant is still Family Owned.

Well, it was ok.

My mother is very skeptical of anything VIETNAMESE food related but I will one day have to bring her here so we can eat.

One thing I was disheartened to hear was that DALAT no longer has the Pork Patties which were often a staple in many a Vietnamese Noodle Soup Restaurant.

According to the owner, his eatery decided to discontinue ordering the Pork Patties because it's not ordered on the menu very often and despite me being the only customer who orders it on my plate, it wasn't enough to convince the restaurant to order more of the Pork Patties.

But if any of you readers are out there in the Vancouver area, I highly recommend you come to DALAT and eat there.

Update as of January 4 2025:

I took my mother to DALAT on January 3 2025 after I came from my Noon Shift at the Cafe.

She liked the food. 

I managed to prove her wrong on Vietnamese Food but it does solidify that Family Businesses are still better, especially when the owner ship is transferred to the Children.....

Who are obviously at adult age of course.
